Organic Matter Redox State Driven by Specific Sources in Mangrove Sediments: A Case Study from Peruvian Ecosystems

چکیده
In order to determine the organic matter redox state in relation specific sources mangrove sediments, two 60 cm-long sediment cores were collected from mangrove-covered and mudflat zones within a forest Peru. Sediment subsamples these analyzed δ13C values C:N ratios, whereas indices, namely, electrochemical (fEAOM) spectroscopical (A1650/A3400) taken previous study correlated with geochemical indices obtained this work. These may provide accurate information on sedimentary diagenesis by oxidative processes through its state. The results show that index for sediments exhibited positive correlation negative molar ratios. correlations suggest more labile derived non-terrestrial is oxidized than vegetation. However, was not valid zones, where non-significant between observed. Furthermore, of deposited over time dependent source mixing influences, being better preserved presence mangrove-derived matter.

Organic matter exchange and cycling in mangrove ecosystems: Recent insights from stable isotope studies
Mangrove ecosystems are highly productive tropical coastal ecosystems which have a potentially high impact on the carbon budget of the tropical and global coastal zone. The carbon dynamics in mangrove ecosystems has been the subject of numerous studies during the past decades, but we are still far from having an integrated view of the overall ecosystem functioning in terms of organic matter pro...

Introduction: Mangrove forests are highly productive ecosystems distributed along the tropical coast line. Nutrient biogeochemistry of mangroves are primarly driven by both allochthonous and autochthonous sources. Characterization of organic matter in coastal ecosystems enables to understand the biogeochemical transformation of organic matter and its influence on ecosystem productivity in respo...

متن کاملOrganic Carbon and Organic Matter Levels in Sediments of the Strait of Hormoz, the Persian Gulf
Total organic carbon has a major influence on both the chemical and biological processesthat take place in sediments. Algal bloom is one of the organic carbon levels in aquatic ecosystems. In 2009 algal bloom occurred in the Hormozgan province and prolonged for months, which finally setteled down in 2010. In this study the variations of total organic carbon (TOC), organic matter (TOM) and tot...
متن کاملRemoval of natural organic matter from aqueous solutions by electrocoagulation
Natural organic matter (NOM) affects some qualitative parameters of water such as color. In addition, it can deteriorate the performance of water treatment process including coagulation, adsorption, and membranes. NOM also reacts with chlorine in the chlorination process and may form disinfection by-products. The present study was carried out in laboratory-scale in a batch system using a cylind...
